‘Because’ has become a preposition, because grammar

The new usage – older than 3–4 years, mind – is what Laura Bailey and Mark Liberman, respectively, have referred to as “because noun” and “because NOUN”.

I believe the correct punctuation should run something the like:

[declarative clause], because: noun.

When hell freezes over. At best this is an awkward, infantile grammatical quirk that may be good for an occasional chuckle. It sounds just plain fuckin' stupid.
