In this fantasy of the pundit class, lawmakers are shaken out of their ideological stupors by a crisis, like a pending government shutdown. When Boehner gives in the phrase you will hear more than the word "shutdown" will be 'we didn't get everything we wanted but it's a good start and we will get more later'. They should throw everyone that believes that off the top of the Freedom Tower.

we should try the next four years without a government. That has to be better than the current Charlie Foxtrot.
