The Man Who Knew Too Little

a_srwhz8d.jpg

The chief of the US spy agency NSA has not discussed the alleged bugging of German chancellor’s phone with President Barack Obama, officials say.
Gen Keith Alexander never discussed alleged operations involving Chancellor Angela Merkel, an NSA spokeswoman said. German media say the US has been tapping the chancellor’s phone since 2002, and Mr Obama was told in 2010. A report in German tabloid Bild am Sonntag claimed that Gen Alexander had told the president about the bugging himself. An NSA source told the paper that Obama had not stopped the operation, and had wanted to know all about Mrs Merkel as “he did not trust her”. - - iOwnTheWorld.com

Your Say

No surprise. More and more military leaders are being controlled by DC.

An offer he can't refuse: get in line or it's under the bus with you.

Obama can't trust anyone who is on to him (i.e. empty suit).

Statement from Carney should be a variation of 'what the hell else are they supposed to be doing?'

Obama said that he didn't trust Merkel? Of course not -- all those Germans are sneaky. That's what this 'beyond racial politics' president would say.

Normally, the morning briefs are just that -- brief. The president rarely gets down into the weeds of exactly how the system works. Besides, it would delay his next game of poker with his valet.

But if anybody believes that our interest in the private conversations of foreign leaders is new, then they're just naive. And don't think that the foreign services aren't just as interested in bugging us too. That's why it's called the world's second oldest profession.

If I was president I'd want a guy like Rumsfeld or Bolton in there: someone who just says "here's how it is, if you don't like it, up yours." Someone who recognizes the press as an adversary and treats them as it, and is overjoyed at the chance to do so. And someone who wouldn't lie or spin but just fire off the facts. Someone who's willing to say "yeah President Taylor was an idiot there, but he told me he's sorry and is working to prevent that from happening again."

Because you have to realize the press will either hate and attack you or love and defend you based on your politics and nothing you do will change that.

There's a nice opinion piece about this topic in today's Wall Street Journal. That any of these "revelations" would be news to somebody just underscores that person's naivete.

Darkwater has it right.

And if there ever was an individual who fit the description of "Dipshit", Jay Carney would be the top contender.

Could there ever be a more asshole asshole? Not likely.

A scoundrel will gladly claim to have been stupid about something if it serves his purpose -- he has no shame or scruples. Our fellow "citizens" elected and re-elected The King of Scoundrels.
