Why Russia is recoiling from America

“When people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature they will like the strong horse.” -- Osama bin Laden
With the death of its Marxist-Leninist ideology, Russia is moving back toward its religious and Orthodox roots.
Secretly baptized at birth by his mother, Putin has embraced this. Increasingly, religious Russians look on America, with our Hollywood values and celebrations of homosexuality, as a sick society, a focus of cultural and moral evil in the world. Do We Really Want a Cold War II?

Russia is not now and never has been a strong horse. They're a nation like Japan that has a vastly overstated sense of self-worth and destiny but is in reality a pretty minor power. And Putin would be a laughable cartoon of a false tough guy were it not for his tendency to murder people for disagreeing with him.

The last Cold War was about economics. We won. This one will be about culture. Not sure I'd bet money on our chances.

Putin may be the head of a minor power, but he's got Obama pegged. Obama is Putin's personal soccer ball at his point. I can imagine Vlad laughing himself to sleep each night. I can't wait to see whether the next POTUS will make any difference.
