Your Say

My libertarian instincts approve of this experiment in living high. My conservative instincts tell me it will probably not end well.

Idiots, it will all go to waste. Cheech and Chong gave stoners too many bad ideas.

I am sure the rest of the comments will be filled with big government statists commenting on how we need to keep wasting money on the war on drugs because of the success of that government program.

Too big to bogart.

You gonna be there, Gerard?

Jimmy,

How do your libertarian instincts feel about the fact that legalization has inevitably injected the government into your recreation?

It already hasn't ended well.

Posted by: Rob De Witt at July 31, 2013 3:32 PM

I'll probably drop by just to see how far they get this y ear. Hasn't "ended well?" Hasn't even begun.

Posted by: vanderleun at July 31, 2013 5:39 PM

Or in the words of Obama, "if I had a spliff, it would look like that."

Rob De Witt: "It already hasn't ended well."
So, my conservative instincts were right.

The libertarians also consider the arrests, the crimes, and the money spent in the legal process enforcing the drug laws.

Posted by: POTsie at August 1, 2013 4:13 AM

And how much money do you suppose will be spent by the Government agencies concerned with legal weed?

The whole concept of "libertarians" supporting greater government involvement in anything beggars the imagination.

Posted by: Rob De Witt at August 1, 2013 9:40 AM

So let’s ask those currently behind bars for dealing, growing, possessing about the lack of government involvement with illegal weed.

Posted by: tim at August 1, 2013 12:12 PM

Was the War on Drugs a misguided and corrupt idea?

Of course it was.

Am I so naive as to believe that legalization will result in anything but a federal bureaucracy creating parasites without number and corruption on a scale hitherto unimagined?

Don't be ridiculous.

Only an imbecile - or an incipient Fascist - would believe that the solution to heavy-handed government is more heavy-handed government. The idiots who've supported legalization have done nothing but ensure higher prices, lower quality, more interference in their lives, and a massively bigger government. The enforcers of this mess will be harvested from the same pool of highly-motivated congenital tit-suckers who staff the TSA.

Who do you think is going to pay the salaries of the legion of compliance-assurers, "quality-control agents," tax-assessors and unspecified paper-shufflers sure to arise in a Federal marijuana csardom? You are.

Figured it out:
One was your copy
One was the NSA copy
One was the GCHQ copy.

Need a pipe wrench for a roach clip.

Thank God the Libertarians finally have something tangible to show for their last 50 years of effort. Maybe someday in the distant future they will move on to the second item on their agenda. Nobody here will likely still be alive when that happens, but it's possible some of our children might see it.

Scott M, It is sad but but big government, reckless spending and less freedom seems to be all the republican and democrat voters want, and they have gotten their wishes.

Posted by: Potsie at August 2, 2013 9:41 AM

@ Potsie
Good point. That's why it was so important to put The Left in charge of schools. The Left promises lazy thinkers they can have it all, everyone else will give it to them, and we can punish your enemies. The Mayberry voters went along with it because someone might call them rude if they tried to stand up for what works. Being nice will bring about violence in this country, but like some women, the only thing that matters is how they feel. They feel nothing bad can happen if you are nice.
