"I work on a farm. When they say you should wash your produce thoroughly at home, they're not joking."

"Fine dining cook here. 30% of your meal is butter. That's why it's so good." - Business Insider

Your Say

In Mexico they wash produce in and iodine solution to kill off a variety of pathogens. Primarily this is because it is understood that those who work in the fields relieve themselves in the fields, and are not exactly scrupulous about hygiene otherwise.

These are the people we have been importing the last few generations to pick and plant our produce. I recommend picking up some iodine if fresh vegetables are in your diet.

Seriously. Wash your food. That's not even funny, wash before you eat, especially produce. Or grow your own.

"and are not exactly scrupulous about hygiene otherwise."

A field biologist related seeing people in Central America drop fresh meat in animal dung, laugh, pick it up, and take it into the kitchen to cook.

A health inspector told me endless horror stories about immigrants operating food carts who would not practice basic sanitation: They would not keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold, and would not wash their hands even after going to the toilet. They did not believe what she told them about sanitation and thought she was just part of the Anglo conspiracy to keep the brown skinned people down.

Many years ago my grandparents visited Mexico. To be safe, they always asked for bottled water. Once they chanced to see workers in the kitchen refilling brand-name water bottles from the tap and then resealing the caps. They switched to bottled soft drinks and beer for the rest of their stay and never returned.

I'd say if you aren't man enough to eat a little sh*t on your strawberries you should just move to Seattle. I have always said there is nothing like the smell of sh*t in a fruit salad!

edaddy, what about all the pesticides?
Remember migrant workers pick those strawberries, they haven't washed their hands all day, so you shouldn't worry about too much.

And to think, the phrase "don't shit where you eat" used to refer to sex in the workplace?
