In the part of Pennsylvania where I come from, Faschnaucht (donut) Day has always been right before Lent (specifically Fat Tuesday AKA Mardi Gras). I wonder if changing the date is an attempt at removing the Christian significance.

As I remember the Lancaster fasnachts, they were shaped like an eclair and covered in powdered sugar. Have they changed since 1975?
