"The God that holds you over the pit of hell,"

much as one holds a spider, or some loathsome insect over the fire, abhors you, and is dreadfully provoked:
his wrath towards you burns like fire; he looks upon you as worthy of nothing else, but to be cast into the fire; he is of purer eyes than to bear to have you in his sight; you are ten thousand times more abominable in his eyes, than the most hateful venomous serpent is in ours. You have offended him infinitely more than ever a stubborn rebel did his prince; and yet it is nothing but his hand that holds you from falling into the fire every moment. -- Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God

Your Say

And this is the main reason people hate God and all He stands for: the sure knowledge of our guilt and His wrath. Judgement is surely coming, and the only safety is in repentance, but that requires humility and a recognition that He is greater than I.

And for modern western man, that is a sacrifice too far.

I pray for His Perfect Grace; I fear His Perfect Justice. As a father, I know His pain for His children as best I can, and I would with all my soul that none of mine, or yours, fall to harm, to evil, and to damnation. I know, too, that He feels the heat of Hell as He protects us from its flames.

The God I know is pure love. He gives us free will.
We chose.

All I can say is, I am glad He is my judge.

Did God give children cancer? Why does God not give us good things, like air, water, vegetation. If only God would give us brains to come up with cures for whatever ails us. I think, since I have shown God to be an utter failure in the goodness department, we should let the Government do His job.

“We love the lovely because it is flattering to us to do so. God loves the unlovely, and it broke His heart to do it. The depth of the love of God is revealed by that wonderful word, ‘whosoever.’ The Bible reveals God to be the Lover of His enemies.” – Oswald Chambers, from Love: A Holy Command

Now there's truth, Joan.
