Japan was an odd place before the war, but after the nukes, its been almost insane.

Japan has always reacted oddly to armed threat. Remember that Cmdr. Perry had to make them re-join the world by threat of a cannonade.

Gerard, that photo is from one of the "Useless Japanese Inventions" books, things intended to be humorously useless although actually sort of functional.
