I am informed by reliable sources that the manifest originally reported was incorrect. The cargo was actually Obama/Hillary bobble-head dolls and hobby RC controlled vehicles.

Wonder if the KGB is up to this kind of operation any more? Would be right up their ally.

Picture a couple of thousand steel boxes floating just at the surface of the ocean in the middle of the Singapore-Suez sea lane.

What do you call a "wet urban legend"?

Spot check of stories about the ship show the industry and Asian papers or websites don't mention a word about any weapons being part of the cargo.
The ships listed destination was Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Wrong place to off-load cargo destined for Syria, especially if it was weapons intended for Al Qaeda.

Answer to top question: A whale of a tale.
