It occurred to me then that we need a new freedom:

The freedom to smash screens that emit unavoidable images and sounds.

For it seems to me that, by analogy with the right of every person to enjoy a tobacco smoke-free environment, every person has the right to a drivel-free environment. The desire of one person who wants silence trumps the desires of a hundred who want noise. The Hilarious Pessimist

Can't (won't) be in the same room as a teevy, which limits my public opportunities more and more severely.

A friend got his first television in the '80s, and remarked "I mostly like the remote. It's like watching TV with a brick in your hand."

THAT I'd go for.

I am 62 and have NEVER owned a TV
(for the Democrats, that means I do NOT want to watch TV)
