Abortion Rights Community Has Become the NRA of the Left

We live in a country where if a six-months-pregnant woman started downing shots of vodka in a bar or lit up a cigarette, people might want her arrested.

But that same woman could walk into an abortion clinic, no questions asked, and be injected with a drug that would stop her baby’s heart. I’ll put my cards on the table: I think life begins at conception and would love to live in a world where no women ever felt she needed to get an abortion. -- Kirsten Powers - The Daily Beast

Your Say

Headline sums it up nicely.

I'm curious about what she means by not wanting to go "back" to the days of back-alley abortions. If there's a difference between what those words bring to mind and what was going on at Gosnell's clinic, aside from one being illegal and the other legal, I'm not sure what it'd be.

Headline sums it up nicely.

BUT! Could the same drinking and smoking woman get out of it if she were to say, "Wait! It's OK! I'm having an abortion tomorrow!"??

I can see our drinking/smoking woman getting a pass when she says, "But, it's OK!. I'm celebrating having an abortion tomorrow!"

Rich - from what I understand, the old "back alley" places were a bit more hazardous to the mother than even Kermit's "clinic".

Kirsten keeps moving further away from the NOW party line. Could it be that Fox News is spiking her water with eau d' realite'?

I was young then, so I confess I wasn't following them that much, but I'm reasonably sure that one of the arguments for legalization was in order to eliminate the need for places like that, not turn them into slightly less septic s**tholes.

Why isn't adoption the perfect win-win solution for unwanted pregnancy?

Posted by: Scott M at May 6, 2013 10:36 PM

Scott,

Adoption isn't the perfect win-win because by aborting they're doing Al Gore's work to fight over-population.

I'm sure the self-righteous frisson that occurs every time one of those bitches murders another young human is the closest thing they'll ever have to an orgasm.

Rob,

I think the answer to Scott's question is simpler. Having an abortion is way easier than having a baby. It's not a child, it's a problem, and there's an oh-so-easy solution.

After all, when you think about it (if you do), it's just a glob of tissue.

NRA of the Left? Boy you guys have lost it.

Posted by: Veritas at May 7, 2013 8:25 AM

Powers would have a leg to stand on if:

1. The NRA opposed all forms of firearms law & regulation. Which they haven't - the NRA has been a strong supporter of adding extra jail time for criminals who commit their offenses while armed, to give but one example of many others.

2. An 'emanation from a penumbra' was anywhere near equivalent to an enumerated right.

Yes, the “NRA of the Left”, yes indeed. Though I forget which amendment establishes the right to abort?
