"If you were the guy who invented the Maglite,"

you started off with a dream to have a really good flashlight and then one day everybody in law enforcement wanted one.

Four years later, you're a regular old guy with time and millions to burn in Carmel. You go to all the Red Sox games. You buy the wife a new Benz. Yeah the watch costs 6 thousand, but whatever. You just buy stuff that works, not all that flash. You can find things out if you really want to know. You have time. You have money. You have patience. You're not under pressure to make a whole lot of mistakes. You appreciate a good meal. You realize you have been blessed, and you take your freedom seriously. By my reckoning, a reasonable man, once rich, will get over the hump and mellow out or wreck his life within 5 years. -- Sir - Cobb

Your Say

The old 6 D Cell Maglite, is still the best tool for whacking unruly suspects over the head. However, as a light it has been far surpassed by LEDs. Maglite is so embarrassed by this problem that they no longer give the specs for the incandescent lights. I have a solution. Build a flashlight with an LED that only needs a few AA batteries. Supply plaster plugs to take the place of the unneeded D cells to give it the proper heft and balance you need to whack suspects.

You beat me to it, Fat Man. I have a use for a good flashlight at work, and when I first began, my first choice was a Maglite--3 D Cell, in my case. They were high quality, and didn't leak voltage just sitting there.

However, that Maglite guy got lazy and didn't see the vast improvement that the LED flashlights offer. Those Maglites have a heft, but they're nowhere near as bright as even a cheap LED flashlight.

Point well taken, but if you want to illuminate a target, you carry a Surefire these days.
