"How I Evolved on Guns During the #BostonPoliceScanner Manhunt"

I realized at that moment that the police cannot protect me from the Dzhokhar Tsarnaevs of the world..... There are not enough police and they cannot come to my rescue quickly enough. They carry guns to protect themselves, not me. -- PJ Lifestyle

Yet she'll vote for those who want to take them away from us.

Let me share the story of a friend, his pregnant wife, his 18-month-old baby. They were abducted from their San Francisco home and killed in Calaveras County by Charles Ng and Leonard Lake in the 1980s. They were 3 (really 4) of numerous victims of these serial killers. My friends were defenseless in their own home against these animals. I know Harvey would not have hesitated to kill them if he could to protect his young family. Who wouldn't? The actual number of victims has never been determined, since all that was left were burned bone fragments (and sick snuff videos) for the most part. Bags and bags of bone fragments. I often wonder what would have happened if my friend, Harvey Dubs, had a weapon in his house and killed these murderers. Perhaps others might have been spared a grisly, terrifying death. Perhaps Harvey and Debbie would be grandparents now, growing old together. Perhaps, perhaps. I really wish they had been armed.

The Power Poltroons wish a disarmed citizenry because they fear being overthrown for their simpleton ideas.

That you can be killed standing defenseless is of no concern to them. Witness the Sullivan Law in NY. Pols and lawyers can get a permit to carry merely by asking for one.

A gun isn't a magic talisman that will ward off evil or keep you perfectly safe. But what a gun will do is give you a chance that being unarmed will not allow.

THE LIBERAL "BUT"

"Liberals" often let slip with rational, "conservative" musings when confronted with the results of how they voted. But these are just very qualified musings meant to make themselves appear "thoughtful." They then revert to type when time has put distance between them and the cause of their revelation.

I refer to such people as "Liberal Buts," because they so often preface these sudden contrarian outbursts with, "I'm a liberal, BUT . . . . "

The hope, and it's not always a vain one, is that with enough instances of "butting" that some of the so-called liberals will realize how ridiculous they sound, and simply switch sides as an act of liberation from beclownment.

That's a good point @ Don Rodrigo. One modern technique I see many different places is the desire for outcome A, but with none of the costs of A. I want a minimum wage, but done in the way that doesn't make poor black kids unemployed. I want free health insurance, food stamps, etc for the poor but in a way that doesn't cause dependence.

It's a sign of childish thinking and accepting what advertisers promise, whomever those advertisers are, that thinks I can have water but not get wet.

Christopher, you're right, of course. But a gun, backed with proper training and the right attitude, will give you more than a chance. Most perps, whether terrorists or ordinary criminals, are not especially skillful in the use of their weapons. What they have on their side is surprise. Take that away from them by refusing to be a compliant, inattentive sheep, and it's more than possible to turn the tables on them.

"Please, please don't give that woman a weapon."

Wait just one consarned second there, bud. You get a weapon to defend yourself, and she doesn't? What's so great about you, that your opinion about something so personal as defending oneself carries that sort of weight?

An eager world awaits your pronouncement.

"Please, please don't give that woman a weapon."

That is more than a little condescending. The gal has just had a major epiphany about how the world works and realized that guns are not an Object of Evil, but useful tools. You can do damage with a tool as simple as a screwdriver (been there, done that), but I get the impression she understands the need to learn how to use this particular gun. Not a reason to kick her for previous views that I will charitably characterize as silly.
