The picture is not far off what things were like when I was a young'un. Nobody had any money for health care, and yet, we all got it. The doctors weren't exactly starving either. Barter, payment plans, bank loans, charity, etc. all made it work. Insurance? Virtually no one had it. Hospitalization insurance came in during WWII, but it was mostly limited to employees of big manufacturing companies. And then it grew like Topsy along with the cost of healthcare. Maybe we can't go back, but I like what Potsie2 is showcasing. Sounds like it works.

To understand what things cost sans government, insurance, regulation, lawyers, and bad attitudes, go to the vet. Not cheap, but affordable. Including life saving surgery and hospitalization. And the bar to getting in veterinary school is higher than medical school.
