“Anyone who thinks he doesn’t need an AR hasn’t looked into the mind of a liberal.”

"Declare the NRA a terrorist organization and make membership illegal. Hey! We did it to the Communist Party, and the NRA has led to the deaths of more of us than American Commies ever did. ... Make ownership of unlicensed assault rifles a felony. If some people refused to give up their guns, that “prying the guns from their cold, dead hands” thing works for me. Then I would tie Mitch McConnell and John Boehner, our esteemed Republican leaders, to the back of a Chevy pickup truck and drag them around a parking lot until they saw the light on gun control. -- Kaul: Nation needs a new agenda on guns

We are not paranoid. We have enemies. Fortunately, they do not know how to field strip and clean their weapons.

Until ARs are back in inventory you do have a chance to buy shotguns and handguns. Heck, for the historical-minded you can buy M-1 Garands from the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) or commercial sources. Yes, it's heavy and the ammo is about $1/round. But, it's the rifle that won the war, the last war we won. As soon as I receive mine, I'll tell you where to shop. I anticipate in a few months people will recognize there is no gun control on the horizon and you will once again find ARs in the stores.

The CMP is the outlet the gov't uses to dispose of their military surplus rifles. Here's the funny thing. If you buy your rifle from the gov't through the CMP not only do you get your very own actual battle rifle, but they mail it to your house. Talk about "gun show loophole." The CMP takes 3-6 months to process your paperwork and deliver your rifle. That's why I am going through a gun dealer that rebuilds and sells M-1s. The price is about $1-1.5k. Delivery time is about 1 week.

My guilty conscience persuades me to tell you where you can get a rebuilt/refurbished M-1 Garand (the primary battle rifle of the US in WWII and Korea). I've done research and found The Garand Guy. He is a passionate M-1 dealer. After much research and reading of gun forums I've not found any negative comments. For about a $100-200 premium over the CMP price you can get a restored M-1 Garand delivered to your house in a week or two. Like I said before, this is a heavy rifle, about 10 pounds compared to the 7 pound AR-15 rifle. The ammo is expensive at about $1 per round but it is more available than the currently sold-out AR .223 ammo.

These rifles are not ideal for home defense, unless you are defending against Hirohito or Hitler's soldiers. However, one well-placed shot will get the job done. Just Google The Garand Guy for the link. When you begin the checkout you will likely get a warning because the website has an out of date security certificate.

The alternative for an M-1 Garand is the CMP and their paperwork. A field grade rifle is about $700, with the most wear, and a service grade rifle is about $950. Typical processing times are about 4-6 months, if you meet all of their requirements.

I say what could be more appropriate than spending your federal income tax refund on a battle rifle or other firearm?
