It was also a LOT easier to lock up obviously deranged people before they became a menace to themselves, or to society.

It was sickening to watch Obama's crocodile tears televised over this. What poseur. Sinking to a new low.

This afternoon, I overheard a college-age, intelligent-looking young man on his cell phone, apparently explaining why some action had a morel basis. "It's called the First Amendment: Honor your father and mother."

I applaud the fact that his heart is right even if his head is not quite aligned. Still, it's indicative of the sad state of American "universal" education. Long ago I learned the first rule of motorcycle maintenance, "universal" means it doesn't fit anything.

But something more sinister is at work in the death of innocence, in the refusal to call evil by its name and point to its source in the hearts of men. When a nation persists in calling good evil and evil good for decades, even generations, it is just asking for the wrath of God to fall, and some of us are so damned hardhearted that we don't see it until the most beautiful among us are sacrificed.

Just how is God not being allowed in schools going to be enforced, pray tell? What is not allowed in some schools (quite rightly, in publicly-funded ones; separation of church and state and all that) is God-bothering and edicts laid down by those who claim to represent Her.

Guilt is the father of hatred and hatred begins with self loathing. Deny God and you deny redemption. A Godless culture is anything but a guiltless one but the more absent faith the more virile the growth of self loathing. The "God-bothering" of those who constantly petition the divine is a form of trust, surrender, Love, and is a way to live in "Her" Grace. A path out of self loathing through meaning and purpose is there, a path denied by those bearing the guilt imposed through adherence to the Godlessness of so called progressive or liberal orthodoxy. These kinds of soulless actors, perpetrators, are "sick unto death", incapable of realizing the simple truth that consciousness is the instrument of the soul and the issue of Grace working through the emotions, through mind to affect the apotheosis of matter.

I was lucky enough to go to grade school in the fifties when almost every male teacher was a WWII vet.
And the mentally ill were safely locked up.

Over time the culture has changed. It has changed to multiculture. Multiculture requires a great deal of force and violence to hold it together. Yugoslavia anyone?

And this is what we have, a TSA, homeland security, NDAA, drug and seizure laws all enforced to the death. And now the treasury is drained and we are close to maxed on the credit card and how will it end. Yugoslavia anyone?

The politicians are as insane as the last few inmates in the asylum. You will get no help from the politicians or lawyers. One and the same? They're too busy parcing what the meaning of is "is", and installing government judges that have no understanding of delegated powers.

Sometimes if I didn't have false morels I wouldn't have any morels at all.

Tonight I plan to confront my liberal relatives, who will certainly throw the Newtown murders in my face, simply because I am a conservative - I don't own a gun. I am going to tell them that if they want to prevent such killings, they need to get rid of the dangerous folly of gun-free zones, and allow, or even require, one or more responsible trained adults in any school to be armed or have ready access to arms, for the protection of the children for which they bear responsibility.

I support all the existing school security measures, with which Sandy Hook was completely equipped, save one: the fatuous gun-free zone status.

When I see their eye-rolling reaction and gasps of disbelief I am going to further inform them that I have arrived at a moral clarity which clearly eludes them, for I have proposed a solution that will actually have a chance to save lives, while they can only mouth platitudes. I will accuse them of being the hypocrites they are, for saying they want to save lives but actually only wanting to use innocent lives lost to further an agenda.

It's going to be an interesting evening and I may end up ostracized - oh hell, I WILL be, but I am fed up with letting these preening fools avoid reality by remaining "polite" and silent, thereby selfishly failing to fulfill the one scarcity in their comfortable lives - that of getting the truth rammed into their faces.

Not everyone is gifted with your clarity of thought, Sherlock. Maybe you grew into the gift. Many, simply, "know not what they do". It is more important to win hearts and minds, than win. That is our best chance. If they can be won.

I am not gifted, I have simply come to understand that we must stand and assert our beliefs. We are used to remaining silent as we are surrounded by those who speak out through all the loud voices of popular culture. We can no longer afford to be so diffident if we are to save this country - we must step out of our comfort zone and pull our comfortable friends out of theirs.

I did not suggest remaining silent. My point was that "acussing" and "ramming in faces" will not advance our cause. That was not a method that turned me from liberalism. It was a reasonable and sober man that did. The way you suggest is a waste of time or worse. Reasonable and sober may work with some of them (it's such a rare quality it's difficult not to notice this behavior). For the others, the seemingly "impenetrable" one never knows why they are the way they are. There were party loyalists thrown in the gulag and they remained faithful to the party. You'll never reach some, but some you might.

If we are hesitant to exult in our honor, few will see it a such.

We will never save America by converting the one in a thousand who can be awakened from the thrall of liberalism through reason.

Why didn't this happen in an armed America back in the 1950's?

It happened in an armed America in 1927. Evil finds a way. But when it happened, they didn't take away guns or blame it on an ideology. They grieved for the dead children, and cursed the SOB who did it.
