"I know Liza Long. "

They grow up watching their mother's hen-peck their fathers until the father finally gets fed up and divorces. -- Waznmentobe

Your Say

I'm sorry, but that article is hateful, cruel and phenomenally stupid. The author has NO evidence that Liza Long caused her son's mental illness by henpecking her husband or in any other fashion. Only a person who is shamefully ignorant of the reality of mental illness would assume in the absence of any evidence whatsoever that it is necessarily caused by bad parenting and must be the mother's fault -- or that a mother so foolish as to have a mentally ill child must also be the kind of woman who drove her husband away. If we're going to assume that the father is absent, how do we know that he didn't cause the child's illness by abandoning his family? Why aren't we blaming HIM? Well, duh, because that would make no sense. The fact of the matter is that none of us has any idea why Liza Long's son is mentally ill. Just because it comforts US to have somebody to blame (that couldn't happen to MY child, no no it couldn't possibly, it must be because SHE'S a bad mother, not like me . . . ) doesn't make it fair or Christian to dump unjust blame on a woman who -- from all I can tell in that article -- is doing her best to raise a very sick child as well as she can in the face of an indifferent and unhelpful legal and mental health communities.
