Your Say

Make the vote for Romney. He is the closest thing to Eisenhower in this race, what with having to administer large organizations and deal with ego-maniacs inside and outside of his control; and to do that successfully. (Eisenhower was chief of staff for Douglas MacArthur twice and retained his sanity. And DeGaulle, Montgomery, and Patton all were not shot.)

Yes - because Dwight Eisenhower is term-limited - and dead - I say Romney is the closest thing to that ideal we will find.

Mikey NTH - You forgot to mention that just about all of those large organisations were considerably smaller when he had finished with them. Asset-stripping FTW! (Unless you're one of the assets being stripped, of course.)

Fletcher - Ike did know how to manage things and people.

Sorry, Mikey, I was talking about Romney. Although I'm not all that impressed by Eisenhower either - considering that his actions during the Suez crisis ultimately led to the rise of Arab nationalism, Islamism and Islamic terrorism 30 years later.

But she still wants to give Romney a cock punch, right?

Fletcher, 200 umpteen years ago you lost the Great Colonial War. You didn't do well in 1812 either. Burning the White House, phooey; I've seen worse urban renewal.

WWI and WWII weren't stellar exhibits, Montgomery couldn't count bridges.

Now you're on the verge of the Wog War I with the ragheads running you up the coal tips before cutting your throats. What you know about this election wouldn't fill an aching tooth.

Fletcher: Romney is a good administrator and knows how to deal with complex organizations and get them to work. He has dealt with ego-maniacs before. Reducing Leviathan would be a plus; getting Leviathan to actually do some of what it is to do and not fight itself where "the rubber meets the road" would be a god-send.

That was the comparison to Eisenhower. He had no combat experience that I know of, yet he kept the vast western allied force moving in one direction - and considering what international and inter-service rivalries there actually were - and of very long standing - he did this very well.*

*Before WWII the US Navy and US Army were more than rivals. And I do not doubt that the Royal Navy and Royal Army saw each other with anything beyond basic tolerance. Add in the French, the Dominions, and the other minor allied powers and keep everybody griping but going forward? Genius diplomat and genius administrator.
