It Might Be Time to Stock Up...

On a good used car. Because the new ones --€“ the ones coming online now and on deck for next year (and the years after that) -- are going to be budget-busters as well as ball-busters.
We are approaching the event horizon of reasonableness when it comes to car design. Because of the unreasonableness of the demands spewing forth from Washington. These demands have existed for decades, but  as in so many other areas, a kind of quickening is occurring. It’s no longer a little regulation here, a new law there. It is one epic demand after the next. -- Eric Peters Autos [HT Fat Man]

Your Say

A Chevy Volt purchase is a subsidy for the affluent. How many of us can afford a $45,000 car? You have to put down the full 45K before you get the $7500 rebate/tax credit, which will go to $10K if Obama is re-elected. That still leaves at least $35K. The average middle-middle class shmo can afford, what? $25K tops?

This is the president and the party that's for the little guy? Oh, wait: does "Julia" ride a bicycle?

Politicians are ignorant of the laws of physics, ignorant of engineering, and ignorant of economics. They are beholden to silly science, pie in the sky futurism, and save the earth eco-doomsayers. Just the people you want telling the engineers what they must do. It's like hiring your four year old to design your home around what he thinks would be fun, and nice, and fun.

I have two low-mileage 2009s. Anything else I buy new will only have two wheels -- unless it's a Can-Am.

Good Article, but I don't remember seeing it before.

Well now you'll have a chance at not remembering seeing it again. Welcome to my mentally deficient world.

And the best feature: that Ford in the ad (electric start, distributor/coil, optional hand crank starter) is 100% immune to the effects of EMP. Put the original solid rubber tires on it and you've got an Armageddon-beater.
