"Affluent people with elitist pretensions

"often have a strong distaste for the wealthy, especially those, like Romney, who earned their riches by being successful in business. If you want to find bitterness against "the 1%," don't look at "the 99%." Instead, focus in on the 98th percentile." -- The Envious Affluent - WSJ.com

Your Say

This is very true. Every Associate professor in the country lingers over his bottle of Two Buck Chuck and thinks to himself: "Hey, I am the one who has the graduate degree in 13th Century French Literature, and I spent three weeks in a youth hostel in Paris, so I would understand and enjoy 1982 Lafitte far better than any rich jerk".

Also a lot of the "intellectuals" live in New York, where the gap between rich and not so rich is far more visible and far more important than it is in Ohio.

In NYC they will have to walk past things that don't even exist in flyover country, like restaurants that cost $250 per person and boutiques with $1500 jeans, on their way to work.

And the trip to work is a also a cause of resentment. In Ohio, everybody drives to work and parks in the company parking lot. OK the boss gets a better spot in the lot, but consider NYC. There the ordinary person walks, rides the bus, or takes the MTA branch of Hades, to work. When they arrive they see their boss get out of his limo. Even a person who makes $250,000 a year cannot afford regular limo service.

They are the bitter ones.

(Pirke Avot 4:1):

"Who is rich? He who rejoices in his portion, as it is written: 'You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you' (Psalm 128:2)."
