More electric cars. More epic fail.

Chronicles of Ineptitude:
Another ironically named Fisker Karma has caught fire, leading to the third recall of the vehicles. Maybe electric cars will work adequately some day, and the Fisker Karma (retail cost: $102,000) will be remembered as the Ford Pinto of the new generation of electrics. Now that would be karma.

Your Say

Yeah but there were like eighty years of functional internal combustion engines before the Pinto even came out...

Actually it wasn't an unsafe car either, just poorly designed.

For $102,000 I can get an S-class Mercedes-Benz, two Lincoln MKS sedans, or three Honda Accords, all equipped the way I want. And all of them will give me more than adequate performance for American roads, comfort, safety, and decent fuel economy (yes, even the Benz, especially with the diesel or hybrid). And none of them is likely to catch fire.

I wonder how big the carbon footprint of a burning Karma is.

A friend from high school is getting a Tesla next month, for what I am guessing is his mid-life crisis gift. He does well, extremely well but brags about using the government subsidy to purchase it... he lives and works just outside of Washington DC and can't believe the rest of the country is doing poorly.
