No progress in the War on Poverty and none expected

If poverty is defined as roughly the lowest 15% of income then, obviously, it will persist whether they have cars, air conditioners, iPhones, TVs, etc. -- Maggie's Farm

Your Say

Kind of begs the question:

If 15% of Americans are "poor," then why are half of all Americans receiving one kind of government aid or another?

Said it before many times...
War on Crime
War on Poverty
War on Drugs
War on Terror
All big government programs used to expand government and waste tax-payer money. Nothing will be solved by any of these "war ons", they will just be used to expand government and waste money. That is their only purpose.

I have to wonder, Mr. Jones, about Sasha's 'partner' working 78 hours a week and only making 200 bucks a week. It sounds like either she has an illegal alien or she's not really telling the truth.
It seems, when you break it down, even after reading a sad tale of woe like Sasha's, the poor are poor because of the poor choices they make in life.

It does remind of George Carlin's observation: fifty percent of people are below average.

Maybe that is what all modern politics are about--representing the fifty percent, and making sure they stay that way.
