How long before the PC as we knew it is dead?

About five years I reckon, or 1.5 PC hardware replacement cycles. Nearly all of us are on our next-to-last PC. Microsoft knows this on some level. Their reptilian corporate brain is beginning to comprehend what could be the end. -- Life after the personal computer - I, Cringely

Microsoft will make us suffer before they die. I bought a brand new laptop with Windows 7 so that I won't have to deal with Windows 8 which promises to be a clusterf#@%.

Microsoft can get a functional OS about every other try. I think it's a marketing ploy. I'm still using XP on my work laptop.

I have Windows 8. It isn't a really a clysterfark, but it is odd. I prefer Windows 7. No blue screens of death, but if I'm in the dark, and the only light is coming from my puter, the bugs land on the screen, and since it is an HP touchsmartass screen, they drag the cursor and open windows and get into all kinds of mischief, but so far, those are the only bugs the system has.
