"Enough about the usual idiots; let’s talk about “Gun-free zones”.

We’re told the movie theater had a sign up announcing its “gun-free” policy. Yeah, and how well did that work out for ya?
Try as I might, I am unable to comprehend the thinking of people who put “gun-free zone” signs in theaters, or on homes, or anywhere. How do they not get that criminals and madmen will read this as “Get your tasty defenseless victims, right here?” For myself, from now on I plan to willfully violate every “gun-free zone” policy I run across. If enough sane people do likewise, perhaps the next massacre can be prevented. -- Gun-free fantasy zones

Mr. Jones, I'm pretty confident that it isn't the Marines you need to worry about. If they took every cop off the street in my state and replaced him with a jarhead, I'd feel a lot safer and more confident that my rights would not be violated. I've known more than a few Marines in my day and I can tell you that any politician who TRIED to use them against the American people would end up regretting that decision. Trust me on this one ... it is not the American soldier you need worry about.

Good ol' "progressive" Sebastopol, California is a "nuclear free zone".
I'm sure the Norks, Chicoms, and assorted terrorist groups will take note and make sure that, when the time comes, Sebastopol is spared.

edaddy - Give the Marines another few years and they will be just as PC and pu$$y-whipped as the rest of DOD.

BillH, There are indeed many who are pu$$y-whipped in the DoD, but not nearly as many as there are in private industry. I write from personal experience. Current and former military folks are much better to work amongst than the light-loafered corporate types ... they'll at least look you in the eye, and they'll kick your a$$ when you step out of line. This masculine behavior makes for a more predictable work environment. The pu$$y-whipped corporate boys always prefer a knife under the fifth rib.

Trying to get back on the gun free zone topic...the No Guns Allowed signs are nothing but Jim Crow signs. What they are really saying is that the poster of this sign wants to announce that they are better then those knuckle dragging gun owners. They know perfectly well that no criminal will give these signs a second look but they want you to know that they consider themselves better then gun owners.

Oddly enough these signs don't even apply to the vast majority of the population. In most states carrying a gun without state dispension is a crime--sign or no sign. These signs only apply to people law abiding enough to get the permit. Getting the permit often involves back ground checks, hefty fees, expensive and uncomfortable hardware and training. All of which makes one undesireable to "our kind of people".

I'm not sure why they have the need to do this but I don't think looking at the signs as a safety measure will advance understanding of why the signs are posted very much.
