North Dakota Considers Ending the Payment of Eternal Rent to the State

AKA: North Dakota Voters Consider Ending Property Tax

Your Say

Property must be defended. It's a fact of life. Rather than each citizen a warlord, we have contracted out this dirty job to our governments, so that we can get on with our wealth-creating lives.

The dirty job holders must be paid. A dedicated police force, criminal and civil courts, are more effective than each property holder for theirselves. Everybody pays a little, thieves, squatters, and con men are deterred, the smart ones get a clue and direct themselves into lawful pursuits. The dumb ones are easily caught and disposed of.

I wouldn't mind paying if there was high correlation between the taxes, and services effectively rendered. And if some of the loot wasn't siphoned off into patronage. There need be no causal relation between patronage and good government.
