Death to the Bald Eagle

The Northern Arapaho last week were granted licenses to kill the symbol of the United States, the bald eagle.
This is an endangered species zoologists have given decades trying to repopulate. Yet Indians need feathers for their little two-steps, and synthetic plumage won’t suffice. -- The Legend of Whining Coyote

Your Say

Symbolism over substance: The death of the American symbol is a far more important message than protecting an endangered species.

During the Regan administration Native Americans (Siberian Americans) were prosecuted in federal courts for killing Bald Eagles. What do you call a President whose administration encourages a particular ethnic group to destroy the National Symbol?

I would not mind the Northern Arapaho killing two eagles as long as they did it in the traditional way. How is that you ask?

The hunter digs a pit in which he hides, naked, next to the pit he places a dead carcass, the bait. When the eagle comes to feed on the carcass the hunter springs from the pit and subdues the eagle with his bare hands, braving razor sharp talons and beak.

It takes real balls to hunt in the traditional manner. The hunt is liable to result in deep wounds or loss of an eye.

I have found old abandoned pits in the high plains of Dakota north of the Black Hills. They are small, cramped, and no place this "white eyes" would care to spend up to 36 hours before the eagle comes for the bate. If the Arapaho have the cajones to do it in the traditional manner, I say more power to them.

But they likely will simply use a shotgun.
