The Choice: A Scion or a Bastard

Voters this year look set to continue an odd pattern that's prevailed in presidential politics for a quarter century.
They will elect either a candidate with a famous father or with no father. The surviving serious contenders—Barack Obama, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney—all exemplify one of these two categories. For the seventh consecutive election, the winning candidate will be either a privileged prince with an adored, powerful patriarch, or an up-from-nothing scrapper with no relationship with his biological dad. -- Michael Medved: Presidential Fathers and Sons - WSJ.com

Your Say

" ... or an up-from-nothing scrapper ... ." Surely Medved was not describing Obama as an up-from-nothing scapper. When did Obama ever scrap for anything? He is very much a person of privilege.

Medved is notoriously guileless when analyzing the Left. He's a former Lefty and he alternates between "if we are nice enough we'll win" and being a contrarian just to be the most famous conservative not in the conservative crowd.

I was subscribing to his daily podcast when he made the convincing case that the blue-eyed POTUS nominee ALWAYS won the race. There might not be a blue-eyed nominee running, but if there was one it was a lead pipe cinch. I think that theory went "tango uniform" when we elected this messiah.
