"Do Not Confuse Me With Them"

"I've studied the disease, I've lived in the swamp.
It is my informed conclusion that we are suffering, as an ex-great nation, from top-down corporate rot. And that's not just the judgement of an ailing old fart. A lot of people in my Service make a profession of not seeing things in black and white. Do not confuse me with them. I'm a late-onset, red-toothed radical with balls. Still with me?" -- John le Carré , Our Kind of Traitor

Your Say

La Carre was incomparable once. He enlightened me, then a teenager, how it could be possible that privileged Englishmen would volunteer for treason in the most despicable of causes.

Rochefoucauld noted that the defects of a man, like defects of the face, grow worse with age. Orwell was a critic of the Left, though he never left it. Apparently he did not have la Carre's defects.

When I was a child, when the words 'Gravy Train!' were shouted by a tiny, little man on a stage coach, the dogs came a-runnin'. At least, that is what I learned from the television commercial.

Gravy Train. Dog food. Food fit only for consumption by dogs. It looked yummy, like meatballs and gravy, swimming in its bowl of watery sludge, but you would never want it as dinner.

And so it is with the Head Start Program. Non-educational, money-wasting, not fit for even the poor.
How sad, that dogs are better nourished than the Democrats' constituency.

Le Carre's books are salted with anti-capitalism and anti-America phrases, and more recently he has revealed himself as a leftie.
