"Conservatism is an electable quality."

Romney is the most electable candidate not only because
it will be nearly impossible for the media to demonize this self-made Mormon square, devoted to his wife and church, but precisely because he is the most conservative candidate. Conservatism is an electable quality. Hotheaded arrogance is neither conservative nor attractive to voters. --Re-Elect Obama: Vote Newt! - Ann Coulter

Your Say

I guess I'm not smart enough to understand the "nuanced" versions of Conservative and Electable.

Would a Conservative support Planned Parenthood, the people with more blood on their hands than Uncle Adolph? How many Conservatives supported bailing out too-big-to-fail companies using TARP?

Does electable mean seldom if ever getting even 40% of the vote in GOP Primaries? NH was Romney's big win and he couldn't get 40%, even with Operation Chaos Democrats voting for him. Does electable include losing early, often, and badly to the guy that lost badly to Obama? In the race versus the electable McCain Romney usually earned 25% of the GOP votes. Electable isn't the word I'd choose.

Romney is electable like Ford, Dole, Bush (elder), and McCain were electable. If the important thing is to defeat Obama, not hurry up and throw out everyone but Romney, why don't the Romney supporters agree to rally to Santorum's side? No question he's conservative and he's never been a RINO.

It's the siren song of GOP politics that if we just nominate a bland consensus candidate the other side and the media will have nothing to use as a club against him. They will make up whatever they need to as a club to beat on our candidate. Pick a fighter, it's a fight we are in, or you will just the the most polite and cooperative victim at the scene of the beating. You can't avoid the fight and nobody watching TV is going to give up their meal ticket because they see our guy is nice.

Just as the Obama voters ignored all of the warnings they are electing a socialist revolutionary some GOP voters are contorting themselves to pretend Romney is electable and conservative. What do you people say when these warnings come true and we lose with the electable candidate? You think more Dems will vote for Romney than GOP? You think running a Plutocrat will scrape off Dem votes? Yeah, that's a plan.

I fear Newt can't win over enough "moderates" to find victory and I don't care for him, but to call Mitt Romney conservative violates every conceivable permutation of the word. The only position on any topic I am aware of that he's not flip flopped on, at least once, recently, is his adamant defense of the socialized medicine system he signed into law for Massachusetts. He'll sometimes take conservative positions, but only after considerable effort to drag him across the line, and until he talks to a different audience.

Romney will probably be the nominee, and I'll vote for him just to get Obama out of office but don't even try to call him conservative. That's just nauseating.

Explain to me why we wouldn't we want the candidate oozing with private sector success? If we aren't anti-Obama enough to vote Romney in, then we deserve another 4 years of Obama. Newt would shake things up but it's the economy, stupid. Or is it? Is it the economy? There is a hell of a lot at stake but jesus christ, wasn't there a lot at stake in 2008 as well?

Romney is a Rockefeller Republican. His term in MA. shows just where his 'spine' is.
Making money doesn't make one 'Conservative.'

Romney cannot win. Newt is dead meat.

There are more wealthy Donkeys in the Congress than Republicans, much less Conservatives.
The difference between McConnell and Reid is who's controlling the money. That's the goal, not what's good for the country.

Pray for someone else to get into the race that can win at the Convention and in the general election.

The Republicans are behaving true to form. It's Romney's "turn".

The angst about the candidate choices isn't new.

Maybe we should ask President Hillary about how well the experts are in finding who is electable. She was a shoe-in in 2008. Electable is the outcome, not the starting point. Electable is determined by the voters in the primaries, not Karl Rove and the Boehner Bunch.

The reason why you shouldn't swoon over business experience is because POTUS doesn't run a business, he governs a country. In business everybody is pulling toward making a profit. In politics one half is pulling to the left and one half is pulling toward the right while we are stuck on some railroad tracks and a train is on the way. The Left would rather have the country ruined than not win their own way. The Right keeps thinking we can logically prove our way is better to the Left, so we keep beating our heads against a wall and ignoring that the Left is a fanatical cult certain that if they beat the wealthy hard enough unicorns will appear.

You have to defeat the Left, not change their minds. You need a fighter not a manager. Why can't GOP voters learn a lesson? How can the man that couldn't defeat McCain, as lame as he was, beat The Messiah, Inc and his Ministry of Truth? The 8 people reported to have changed their mind about Obama is not a repudiation of Obama and socialism. It's 7 communist mad they haven't received their unicorn and one school teacher that really did expect to have her car filled with gas by Obama.

The moderates and independents are watching American Idol and playing Angry Birds. That's what they'll be doing when the country blows up. Stop expecting the TV watchers to suddenly get it, they deliberately tune out, thank God.

Remember the electable John Effing Kerry or the electable Albert Gore, Jr.?

"Self Made Mormon"?? Mz Coulter... are you nuts, or have you forgotten your history?

Mittens father, George W. Romney was President & CEO of American Motors, the 43rd Governor Of Michigan, Secretary of Housing And Urban Development under Richard Nixon, and ran for President in 1968. His mother Lenore Romney ran an unsucessful bid for the U.S. Senate.

Do you seriously expect us to believe that Mittens was NOT born with the proverbial 'silver spoon'? I can understand pulling for your man in the campaign season, but ignoring simple facts like these is another form of 'lying by omission'. Shame on you Mz Coulter. 'Self made' indeed.
