Comment of the Week So Far: "The worst are full of passionate intensity."

To win, you need the middle. The middle is ready to get rid of Hussein, but they are by nature scared. An angry candidate full of passionate intensity will scare them into voting for the devil they know. They need nice kitty and gentle strokes on the head. They like uplift and they like optimism. But anger scares them. Newt is angry and so am I, but my head controls my heart, and says we need a different candidate. We cannot indulge our emotions at this moment. We must remember that this will be an uphill struggle against not only Hussein and his insane clown posse, but also against the media, the unions, the educational establishment, and a lot of other left wing institutions." -- FatMan remarking on Side-Lines: "The roar is passion. The roar is intensity. The roar is pent up frustration."

Sounds like a professional political consultant, filled with cynical contempt for the voter. Mitt has hired a boatload of these guys God knows why.

He seems to forget that a majority of independents would send Obama packing if they had their chance today.

Sure. Bob Dole, John McCain, and the likes of Mitt Romney pulling down their pants and bending over to the left and the media sure has worked well for us. I'll vote for the one guy who has a record of reform and balancing budgets. Really getting tired of hearing this type of nonsense.

Not to put to fine a point on it Dave, but what's missing from the middle of this set: "Bob Dole, John McCain?"
Hint: His father was once president of the United States and he, as a "compassionate conservative" and a buddy of Ted Kennedy and other sleazeball liberals also served as president of the United States -- two (2!) terms.
I just love the way in which that man is always conveniently left out of the arguments against Republicans running from the center.

Apples and oranges.

Meh, the middle will follow a strong, positive leader. Ronald Reagan was declared doomed because he was so radical and would terrify all the moderates. Yeah, that sure turned out to be accurate.
Non political people aren't fixated on the same stuff blog readers and writers are. They care about broader issues like the economy and safety. The guy who seems most likely to deliver that they go for, regardless of the other stuff. Most of them don't even know what exactly politicians stand for.

The problem is that there is no strong positive leader in this crowd.
So now what?

We do the best we can, I just think the "you're scaring the moderates!!!!" argument is silly. Obama scares the moderates, by being insanely radical.
