I'm pretty sure they came up with the name "Prius" because it resonates with Priapus, which is either ironic, pathetic, or worse.

Ha - I bet you're right. I always assumed the connection was to "pious," which is also ironic, pathetic, and/ or worse, but in a wholly different way.
Probably, though, it's a little from column A and a little from column B...
