What if the Constitution No Longer Applied?

What if the government could write any law, regulate any behavior and tax any event, the Constitution be damned? What if the government was the reason we don’t have a Constitution anymore? What if you could love your country but hate what the government has done to it? What if sometimes to love your country, you had to alter or abolish the government? What if Jefferson was right? -- by Andrew P. Napolitano

Your Say

Jefferson is at the zenith of reason with his opinion that revolt is "cool."

Bring on the condition; as old as I am, I still can shoot. This is not a reason to fear death.

We would do what had to be done.

I would hope that a scenario straight out of "Seven Days in May" would occur, but in the service of upholding the Constitution instead of undermining it.

Personnel serving in the military take the following oath:

"I, (NAME), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

(Emphasis mine.)

A thoughtful soldier, sailor, airman, or Marine is going to at some point in his (or her) career wonder what that oath will require of him should he come to the honest, good-faith conclusion that the Federal Government has become a domestic enemy of the Constitution.

Conversely, a change in that oath to transfer that allegiance to the Constitution to the Federal Government, the Office of the President, or even to a particular President (a la Hitler vis-a-vis the German Army in the 1930s) is a sure sign that bad days are ahead.

Apparently it depends on what the meaning of "what if" is...
