"Saving"
A lot of people in America spend an inordinate amount of time and money keeping indigenous people âdown on the farm,â so to speak. But are we really doing them a favor ensuring that they get to enjoy the same marginal subsistence life theyâve had for centuries (or more), rather than giving them a passport to the modern world? The instinct to "pat the cute little pickaninnies on the head" while smilingly sending them back into their quaint ignorance and poverty, using them only as needed for the purposes of the really smart and deserving is deeply ingrained in the Democrat mind, and with Teddy Roosevelt (he and his cousin FDR's for-bearer having captained the first slave ship into the English colonies)was part of the Republican mindset for much of the 20th Century.
