Why, oh why was Twain's unpublished work turned over to these jackanapes to paw through like illiterate raccoons looking for rancid bits to eat? Yes, yes, I know they style themselves "The Mark Twain Project," and have devoted their mortgages, if not lives, to Twain, or at least to raiding his intellectual larder to stock their shabby ivy-stricken midden over at Berkeley. So what. The mental contortions needed to adduce that their name and their sinecures makes them capable of understanding such a writer is like saying that a dog has ticks so the ticks should inherit the dog's estate.

of the cultic and hysterical called Leftism is what I call ‘the unreality principle.’ This is the principle, baldly stated, that reality is bad and unreality is good, therefore unreality is real. The second tenant coming out of this first principle is that anything one would like to believe about Leftism is real, and the that facts are not real. Hence, the Leftist believes his cult is not a cult. To the Leftist, the Christians are cultists; but the Leftist and his fellow are merely awake and aware people in a land of foggy sleepwalkers. He and his are the only people who see the true danger from Global Warming, the danger of Zionism, the danger of Theocracy, the danger of Capitalism, and the danger from racism, sexism, and homophobia. All these threats are clear, present, impending, terrifying and justify any action, from simple suppression of the truth to riots to state-sponsored mass murder, that the imagination of man can conceive in his dark heart. There is an asymmetry in how progressives view justice. Those not having are seen as suffering more intensely than those who have what they have taken forcibly from them.

The only movie that the Coen Brothers have ever said that they want to make a sequel to is Barton Fink. And you’ll have to wait another 10 years for that, at least. It’ll be Old Fink. He’s going to be a hippie. I’m gonna have a big Jewfro and be at like Woodstock or something. Maybe he sold all his friends out, who knows. I don’t know the story. All I know is that he’s going to have a big Afro, and I think it’s going to be in the ’70s.

- Mark Twain: Bra Patenter
Samuel Clemens (1835-1910), who became Mark Twain in 1863 and then mostly stayed that way, had a great mind and was a superb writer and story teller--he wasn't necessarily a great inventor, however. In the ear;y sea of his great achievements, in 1871--just after the publication of his first real best-seller, Innocents Abroad, 1869)--Clemens applied for and was granted a patent for a bra clasp. I don't know if it is the bra clasp, or not, but for whatever reason Clemens pursued this interest all the way to the end.
