- The Technium: The Clock in the Mountain
There is a Clock ringing deep inside a mountain. It is a huge Clock, hundreds of feet tall, designed to tick for 10,000 years. Every once in a while the bells of this buried Clock play a melody. Each time the chimes ring, it’s a melody the Clock has never played before. The Clock’s chimes have been programmed to not repeat themselves for 10,000 years. Most times the Clock rings when a visitor has wound it, but the Clock hoards energy from a different source and occasionally it will ring itself when no one is around to hear it. It’s anyone’s guess how many beautiful songs will never be heard over the Clock’s 10 millennial lifespan.

That clock. Very cool. But I'm torn. The part of me that grew up reading science fiction loves the idea of something as inherently optimistic like this surviving into the far future. The part of me that's worked at Barnes & Noble for the last six years and knows how little humanity exists even in the kind of people who consider themselves intelligent and educated knows the clock will be vandalized into mere rubble in our lifetime by people who theoretically should know better. Trust me, it'll be bored hipsters in their 20s who do the deed. For the irony, or some modern faux-philosophical bullshit like that.

I like Condell as far as his take on Islam goes, but he's an equal opportunity hater of God, whether it's the Christians or the sons of the prophet. If he were as honest as he thinks he is, he would look at how the Church of England, in a quest for relevancy ditched the Gospel and belief, and is now headed by a doddering twit. China and Russia embraced atheism with the unquestioning faith of religious zealots. Muslims will become a majority in Russia not so many years hence, and Christians, while secret for now, may well be the source of revival, when it all comes down.

Sounds more like a 10,000 year crock.
Will this be as successful as the Crazy Horse memorial in South Dakota?
I have to agree with the first commenter about someone messing it up as soon as more folks can actually get to the construction site.

What Mr. Condell is beginning to realize is he may have to dance with the devil to stop the West's demise. For his country it will be the likes of the BNP. The great social revolution of the sixties is over
