So You Have a College Diploma

Now that your time and money are tapped out, this diploma will serve as lasting reminder of everything you accomplished during your magical four to seven years on campus.

Please take it with our compliments, and treasure its distinctive elegance during the many, many free hours you will soon have after moving back home with your parents. As a special offer to those parents who have any money or pride left, we will cheerfully mail your student's diploma pre-framed for the low additional cost of $79.95 plus shipping and handling, ready to hang in a place of honor over your family hearth or hot water heater. -- iowahawk

Your Say

After seeing my twins through college with only an expensive bit of calligraphy on fake parchment, I have told my younger two to go into a trade where they will actually get work. There's no shame in repairing things, or in being a prison guard. Or any number of other jobs and careers that don't require a college degree.

Ugh. I wouldn't want to be a prison guard. Carpenter, plumber, electrician, or handyman, sure, but not a prison guard.

JOAT, that'a the ticket. A Jack Of All Trades you better be, given what a college degree is worth.
Ah yes, I have my degree in _______ Studies.

We're going to home school... indefinitely. So funny, the undergrads and grads with whom I've spoken are either pursuing government jobs or planning to stay in school... indefinitely. That's just what we need, huh? More overrated pseudo-intellectuals with no practical skills and even less practical experience who think they are, collectively, Mother Earth's chosen people.

Prison guard? Yeah, they've got lots of political power in California today. But now that the Supreme Court has mandated the release of how many was it - 30,000? 40,000? - prisoners from CA's penal system, pretty soon they may have ex-clients as interesting new neighbors at the same time that their pension fund doesn't really have any money in it.
