Outside of crunchy cereal goodness, perhaps Kelloggs’ mostly lasting legacy is the concept of vibrating your way to fitness. Thanks to the marvelous development of harnessed electricity, he engineered a wooden vibrating chair (above) around 1900, which he claimed could clear out the intestines, dissolve backaches and headaches, and improve muscle tone. -- Collectors Weekly

Gee, I thought that was "Old Sparky" at first glance.

FWIW: "Vibration Training" made a comeback of sorts a couple years ago, and seems to have some validity, especially for improving bone density. Mark Twain tried a vibrating platform built by original-mad-scientist Nikola Tesla, and claimed it helped keep him regular.
