Good Question Concerning the Green Believers in Green DOOM

Green predictions of End Times are just as demented as Christian ones – so why are they treated more seriously?

“The Rapture? If it comes near me this Saturday I’ll kick its arse through its neck”, says Charlie Brooker. “I expect everyone who thinks so-called Judgement Day is on May 21st to support science and reason from the 22nd onwards”, says Professor Brian Cox. Brave stuff indeed, mocking a man of God who is clearly a few clowns short of a circus. But what I want to know is this: why don’t these Camping critics, these alleged challengers of bunkum and defenders of reason, also stand up to the far more mainstream yet equally batty predictions of End Times emanating from the environmentalist lobby?

Your Say

Because we are wealthy, over-educated, and easy to command.

This is going to be a big disappointment.

Already been Saturday here for some time. Nothing yet.

I was thinking... a fun way to go would be to watch Israel vaporize Muslim aggressors the world over. Now THAT is one "end of times" with entertainment value. Would love to hear what President Brilliance's teleprompter would have to say after that.

The teleprompter would most likely be silent -- EMP, yanno...

I wonder how many of the really shrewd ones donated to the cause with a credit card, now can claim fraud and ask for a charge back.

The same question can be asked of those who contributed to so-called carbon credit schemes.

Here's a thought: The religious doom-sayers always come from the very well-off quadrant of humanity. In fact, they are all quite wealthy. Their lemmings all believe they will be transported to celestial joys beyond all suffering and woe - from this life, where they have had it pretty easy, to the next, where more of the same creature comforts will continue.

Much, much worse is the cult of Utopian man fixers, or in this case, the planet fixers, who have had their way with perfecting the planet in Africa, where DDT is banned, and in its stead are mosquito net handouts. Mighty generous of 'em. And genetically modified corn is outlawed there, too, so the corn they can grow is barely enough, is confiscated by brutal thuggish dictators who get more food that could have been grown by the people for themselves, if it weren't for the helpful planet fixers at the UN and Red Cross and other agencies of helpfulness. If anything, the late 20th and early 21st centuries will be known as the era of wishful thinking.
