George Orwell’s revulsion toward all “the smelly little orthodoxies that compete for our souls”

"What sickens me about left-wing people, especially the intellectuals, is their utter ignorance of the way things actually happen. I was always struck by this when I was in Burma and used to read anti- imperialist stuff." -- The Intimate Orwell by Simon Leys | The New York Review of Books

This only proves what a powerful and dangerous tool political correctness truly is. Our "intellectuals" don't have the capacity to question things. If they need something done, they call on the media and entertainers to herd the sheeple. Americans don't question things either, because it is important to they be perceived as "intellects". This self-serving mindlessness has manifested as President Barack Obama, Chris Matthews, Sean Penn and Senator Stuart Smalley.

As George saw it, the State does not care so much what you do as it cares what you think. But that was the Stalinist State. Alexis T. foretold our democratic state way back in 1835 when he saw that our governors would simply take over the trouble of thinking for us, and that we would be consoled by thinking that we had chosen our supervisors. Good call.
