Afghanistan Bananastan Redux

Afghanistan, as this blog has often argued, had no value in itself.
Its center of gravity is in the Middle East, something which Pakistan has always appreciated. Without Saudi money and influence, the Taliban would die, or be up for grabs. Hence the Pakistani obsequiousness toward King Abdullah. No Abdullah, no Taliban. Or worse, a Taliban with an Indian accent. -- Belmont Club サ Dealing with the Devils

Your Say

had no value in itself

However, if that statement is taken at face value, it would be wrong because of the discovery of huge and valuable mineral deposits in Afghanistan.

When America abandons Afghanistan, American mining companies will reap no benefit from this bonanza. China will, and at the expense of Afghans, because it will import Chinese workers, even for the lower level jobs. All that American blood and treasure spilled for . . . what?

What? Why every individual who served there learned to loot and plunder; bring that knowledge home and exert it against the Proggy fools that sent you there.

They're not prepared for THAT reaction. Invite them to the NEW dance.
