Sandmonkey Has Left the Building

Simon » Of Sandmonkey, Peter King, Mao and my Islamophobia: a second letter to SalimI have been trying to reach Sandmonkey because I was disappointed to learn he too has now appeared to have joined the rabid pack seeking a rapid renegotiation of the Egyptian peace treaty with Israel. I thought my friend Mahmoud would have had the maturity and sophistication to realize that the Jews are the least of Egypt's problems. In fact, it is obviously the reverse -- the more Egyptians fixate on Israel, the less they fix themselves.

The most reasonable-sounding, moderate Muslim will eventually drop the pretenses and let this come out. It is their core. When you boil all the dross away, and Islam is nothing but dross, you get the very essence of Islam: Hatred. Jew hatred. As long as there are Jews to hate, this will be the fuel for the Muslim fire.

I'll bet there are exceptions, Jewel, and quite a number of them. However, you have to drill down so far through the Muslim ethos, that it's not worth the capital investment in "mining equipment" to find them.
As a consequence, for all practical purposes, your point stands.

The only way for someone to find a truly moderate Muslim is to find one who is an apostate, like Ali Sina, Ibn Warraq and Wafa Sultan, just to name a few.
My husband just finished painting the home of a lovely Iranian couple. About the same age as us,in their 50s.
They cheered the fall of the shah, and didn't think anything of the Ayatollah Khomeini, after all, he was their liberator. And then the war with Iraq, and the hanging of the intelligentsia.
What finally got this man to leave Iran and Islam altogether was the forced marriage of 9 year old girls to old men. Because, ya know, Mohamed, and what's good for the Prophet is good for all time.
He said, with a straight face, "That's when I knew Islam is a false religion, and not about religion or God, but about sex with little girls."
Among a number of other things, all criminal by western standards.
