Where have all the flowers gone?

Mario Savio, U. C. Berkeley, Free Speech Movement, 1964

What happened to all my compatriots who, in my youth, marched and sang for "freedom?"
How did they become so old, so hidebound, so mired in the past? When did they become stuck in "suppose?" How, from once striving so hard against colonialism in all its guises, did they allow their minds to become so utterly colonized by a matted mass of dim and discredited notions? -- While Mowing the Lawn @ AMERICAN DIGEST

Your Say

To answer your question, if you should happen to mow down the flowers, we'll know where they've gone, and we won't tell on you, neither.

Where have your compatriots gone? They are the ones on the front page on the WSJ crying that their 401(k)is in the shitter.
They're still not willing to fess up to the reality they voted in the bungholes that raped and pillaged the exchequer by refusing to fund the Vietnam War.
They're the ME generation of the '70's and the Greed gen of the '80's and their vanities are now torched.

You voted for the Leahys, Harkins, Dodds, Bidens, Lugars, et al and deserve the condign results.

Welcome to Wal-Mart employment.

Speaking just for myself, I didn't vote for any of those.

They are regretting their first white-guilt presidential vote right about now. Probably missing GW just a tad. Thinking President McCain might have been the right choice, despite of his white-trash running mate. And probably secretly wishing they could be out there with the Tea Partiers.

Gerard, not everyone did, but enough did and still do. I never voted for Leahy, Jeffords or Sanders.
I'm not a boomer (born '43) and I wish Goldwater won and canned SS.

This country would be so far ahead of the self-sufficient retirement planning now.
And that money would not have been available to the caitiffs to steal.
