The secret desire of the left has been limed before:

Then, whispered Castro, those first men formed the cult
around tall idols which the Great Ones shewed them; idols brought in dim eras from dark stars. That cult would never die till the stars came right again, and the secret priests would take great Cthulhu from His tomb to revive His subjects and resume His rule of earth. The time would be easy to know, for then mankind would have become as the Great Old Ones; free and wild and beyond good and evil, with laws and morals thrown aside and all men shouting and killing and reveling in joy. Then the liberated Old Ones would teach them new ways to shout and kill and revel and enjoy themselves, and all the earth would flame with a holocaust of ecstasy and freedom. Meanwhile the cult, by appropriate rites, must keep alive the memory of those ancient ways and shadow forth the prophecy of their return.

Your Say

Damn -- I thought *I* was the only person who ever quoted that passage when discussing Lefty nihilism!

(I've usually used it to describe "deep ecologists", who love Mother Earth so much they're willing to watch 9/10ths of the human race die horrible deaths to save Her. Of course they see themselves as members of the *Enlightened Remnant*...)

It's as good an explanation as any.

Skorpion: You are my master. I, despite a long life and knowing some Lovecraft fans, had not read the story until a couple of months ago. Its political relevance didn't dawn on me until a few days ago.

@ Skorpion every hanger-on of the glorious revolutions see themselves as the enlightened ones. They will be the 1/10 left to carry on the gene pool into the brave new world.

They'll need a Virgil to get them up from the Ninth Ring of Hell.

That. Was. Good.

Thanks Fatman.

Though this applies to the Fundamentalist Lefty, it fits very well with the tone one of my persecuters at work who hated 'Christians' and was fond of the Cthulu books (moved to another department ~8 years ago). He was as fine an example of an amoral man as there could possibly be and yet fall within the confines of 'Constitutional Legality'.

Though many readers of the 'Call to Cthulu' are probably ordinary, sane, people, there are the few True Believers.

I have a feeling I will be reading this 'Rules for Extreme Radicals' in my future. Thanks... and Wow.
