Most mainstream Republicans are looking for Mr. “Anyone-but-Palin.”

Palin detractors are now comparing her – unfavorably – to Ronald Reagan whom they pretend to admire.
Reagan, the man who left office with an approval rating lower than Palin’s during her governorship was classified as an “amiable dunce” by “Whiz Kid” (and Liberal icon) Clark Clifford. He was accused on “Sleepwalking through History” by veteran newspaperman Haynes Johnson. SDI was ridiculed as “Star Wars” by Senator Kennedy because as everyone knows, you can’t shoot down ICBMs. Meanwhile, we are reminded that Jimmy Carter was touted as smart because he was a nuclear engineer and had a degree for Evelyn Wood’s speed reading class. Credentials are everything until you want something done. -- The Virginian: Palin vs. Reagan

Your Say

Excuse me - was that Clark 'Bank of Credit and Commerce International' Clifford? Mister 'I am part of the correct establishment' Clark Clifford?

At this point, no matter what it does to me, I want an Andy Jackson to go through the land; I want an 'I will hang the first man I catch from the first tree I see' Andy Jackson.

The really nice thing about Governor Palin, from an observer's point of view, is that no matter how long they have been around, no matter how great they think their CV is, no matter how many friends tell them they are really cool and smart besides, no matter how large or small their their viewership or readership, the mere mention of her name or seeing it in print causes every liberal in the country to wet their pants.

Clark Clifford? Are you kidding me? Google him. One of the most corrupt men in the last century. There wasn't once scandal he wasn't associated with in some way. The only thing "whizzy" about him is the whizzy way he evaded prison.

Correction: They're looking for Mr. (or maybe Mrs.) "Just-As-Good-As-Palin-But-Not-Palin". They want somebody who can unite and excite the Right that much, and somehow avoid the s**tstorm that is inevitably going to bear down on anybody that good. They are in short, I'm afraid, kidding themselves.

And yeah, that Clark Clifford. I had a real warm fuzzy when that guy's career got blown up by the BCCI thing.
