Wag the ER team: Notes from "Post-Partisan" America

Bring them out for a "victory lap!" Giffords' Medical Team will Attend State of the Union
ABC News has learned that several members of the Tucson medical team that treated Gabrielle Giffords after she was shot in the head will be in Washington this week to attend President Obama’s State of the Union address.

Doctors Randall Friese, Michael Limole and Peter Rhee of Tucson’s University Medical Center, along with intensive care unit nurse Tracy Culbert are scheduled to attend the Tuesday speech, according to Giffords’ spokesman C.J. Karamargin.

In olden days, this kind of political circus was called Waving the bloody shirt

In the history of the United States, "waving the bloody shirt" refers to the practice of politicians referencing the blood of martyrs or heroes to criticize opponents. In American history, the phrase gained popularity with a factitious incident in which Benjamin Franklin Butler of Massachusetts, when making a speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives, allegedly held up a shirt stained with the blood of a carpetbagger whipped by the Ku Klux Klan.[1] (While Butler did give a speech condemning the Klan, he never waved anyone's bloody shirt.)

Let's see, congresspeople sitting here and there on the "buddy system," and the hauling in of EMS heroes as political pawns. Noted.

As we read in the book of Bob Dylan, "The beauty parlor's filled with sailors. The circus is in town."

"Is used it is plain
For the politician’s gain
As he rises to fame
And the poor white remains
On the caboose of the train
But it ain’t him to blame
He’s only a pawn in their game."

Your Say

Why does any sentient conservative feel compelled to attend? These events are relics of an unwired age, and are ever more remindful of our increasing Soviet apparatchik behavior popping up and down in ovation with the group.

Wilson, you're right. Considering the zeitgeist, conservatives would be well advised to boycott the event as the sham pack of lies it is. Obama is the leftist poster-boy. Draw the line, and let the American people choose a side. Eh, that would require an oxymoron, political courage.

Also, ABC reports that they will also be performing an exploratory brain surgery on VP Joe Biden. They will try to find the cause of the VP’s remarkable ability to be wrong on every issue since 1973.

VP Biden said, “It’s a big fucking deal!”

But let's not kid ourselves, Gerard: the "blind commissioner" sees very well!

A beer summit, it will not be. I'll up that, James. The Repubs should skip out entirely while President Brilliance and the Dems wear matching "Together We Thrive" t-shirts. It should absolutely be a purely partisan occasion.

Who hosts the State of the Union Address? The President, any President, is not allowed on the floor of Congress without a special invitation. If the House is the host, then the best thing would be to tell the President that it is not necessary to deliver his address directly to Congress, and he can send a copy over by snail mail, e-mail, or courier as he prefers.
