Colonized Minds Are Always Frantic

Whatever you think about this or that Senate, or this or that issue,
the notion that the United States needs the Senate to be constantly doing stuff strikes me as pathologically bizarre and disconnected from reality. As if our lives couldn't continue if the Senate stopped doing stuff! This bespeaks a mindset that seems a little too steeped in bureaucratic thinking. Like a middle manager who thinks their PowerPoints are so important, there's a class of politically-agitated folk which sees our DC masters as something akin to the engine or heartbeat of our county -- if they are 'paralyzed,' if they stop, we all stop. -- My Bias For Inaction « Rhymes With Cars & Girls

Your Say

A brilliant idea! Start the 112th Congress with as much rolling back of stuff as possible; then furlough the whole group until the 2012 elections are over. The Texas model of a part-time legislature provides a path to a sane(r) future.

I recall reading that at the beginning of the Republic there WAS a brief period of time where the House and Senate had nothing to do and attempted to not make any new laws. Really!

I just can't figure out how to dredge up that bit of data at the moment...

How about a Constitutional amendment that would require Congress to repeal two laws for every new law it passes?

How about a Constitutional amendment that would require Congress to dissolve itself once it spends one dollar without cutting two from the Congressional perqs.
