I'm past that point and waiting for the laggards to catch up

I wonder at what point radical environmentalism and radical feminism will be identified

as the narrow-minded, fundamentalist-activist-transcendentalism (let’s call them religions, already) that they clearly are. In radical environmentalism, we have all the required religious accouterments normally ascribed to God’s Dupes; it comes with its own liturgies, rubrics and rituals, its own sins, laws and saviors. In the case of radical environmentalism and feminism, these religions even have, in Al Gore and Gloria Steinem, their own infallibly “pontifical” voices. -- The Anchoress on "The Radical Religion of Abortion"

Your Say

What the fems and enviros are missing that would truly put them in the category of a religion is a Book. Oh, they have their various tracts and pamphlets...but there's nothing that provides a nice base of reference. I'm sure they prefer it this way as there isn't even a loosely defined set of standards by which a feminist or an environmentalist is supposed to act. Not only that...but anyone can call themselves one...which is great when they claim a majority with which to publically bludgeon some heretic-of-the-moment.

At least with religion there's an imperfectly followed set of rules that are available to everyone. The blatant hypocrites (of late, Rush comes to mind) are easy to spot and, at least with respect to their stated religion, dismiss. Here in the Sunshine State we ought to be able to dismiss as illegitimate any so-called environmentalist who burns fossil fuels to dry their clothes. There is no question that such behavior is completely inconsistent with a 'concern' for the environment and ought to be verboten. Yet one can make minimum convenient effort (say recycle diet Coke cans and use cloth bags at the grocery store) and still call themselves 'green'. It is laughable.
