Dear Wikipedia,

Okay, so you “redesign” your home page and spiff up that puzzle globe. No real reason for that that I can see except that people who can dick with something that’s pretty good can always dick with it to make it worse.

Let’s talk the “Wikipedia Search” box on the home page. Since the Stone Age of the Web it was always, like fooking ALWAYS, near the top on the left hand side of the home page. Now it’s in the upper right corner on a long diagonal across the page.

Let’s review: Most of the world reads from left to right. For over a decade you’ve trained all of your billions of users to position the mouse cursor on the left.

But now we all, all of us BILLIONS, have to track the mouse across the long diagonal. A second or two for every Wikipedia search but multiply that by billions a day and what have you got other than a USELESS CLUSTERFUCK OF A DESIGN UPGRADE?

Did you design geniuses come to work with the express idea, “Let’s see what small change we can make that will irritate billions every day?” Or did you just kick back behind three roofies, a pack of smack, and ten bong hits and throw darts marked “Search” at an interface digram?

Thank you for allowing me to share.

Your Say

The Ford F150, what we have, at least the year we have, a 95, is a piece of crap. Most of the mechanics who have seen it all say the same thing about the engine. It's a delicate little thing that effin' breaks. BREAKS.

There is nothing so well-designed that some idiot somewhere doesn't think that he can improve on it. That rant is one that I have had to the wall regarding just about every program or site design I have run across.

The words 'obvious' and 'simple' seem to be lost in the rush to show everyone what can be done. and like a tru tv program, everyone is shown exactly what can be done.

Hey, the economy is bad. Even the most untalented, unimaginative and unproductive of the corporate world have to justify their existence these days.

What's a "Wikipedia"?

I guess they figured that if Bill Gates could thoroughly frack up a multi-zillion dollar interface like MS-Office that has been the same since the beginning of time and destroy the efficiency of a few billion people around the world for years to come for no reason other than to amuse himself, maybe they should give it a try with their little encyclopedia thingy?
