File under: "Oh, shut the fuck up"

The always damp Andrew Leonard on The deplorable rise of the plastic Easter egg @ the damper Salon.com

I still can't get my head around the fact that this weekend, millions of children will, knowingly or unknowingly, reenact ancient rituals honoring the mystery of life by hunting for plastic eggs that symbolize the exact opposite of fertility and birth. Instead of resurrection, plastic eggs are all about everlasting nonbiodegradable un-death, inauthenticity and cheap disposability, not to mention global economic trends eating away at the livelihood of blue-collar American workers.

Your Say

Here's an egg I'd like to see fried on a hot sidewalk. With a side of delicious bacon.

Ah yes, the plastic egg. Symbol of everything that's wrong with America, and why we need more governmental intrusion into our lives to make everything well and wholesome again. Let's pass a law!

If he ever knew my mom that plastic egg (with candy in it) was not disposable until it actually broke. Another Easter, same plastic eggs, same baskets, same plastic grass - but new chocolate bunnies!

You know, after 60+ years you would think that these critics would get tired of dragging out the same old accusations they have always leveled about American popular culture, but no! Year in, year out; season in and season out - it is the same. The gross, vulgar, masses will consume more than the critic wants them to consume, the GVM will have more fun than the critic thinks they should be alloted. I remember reading them years ago, and the tune never changes. The GVM need a governess, and that critic is just suited up and ready to do that.

Imagine disparging people of no special 'birth' or special 'attainment' for making their lives as comfortable and pleasant as they can? What kind of hound do you have to be to do that?

Screw them all, and the horses they rode in on.
